Cheese Fatayer
Ingredients
For the dough
- 1 yogurt
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp yeast
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1tsp salt
- 600 g flour
For the filling
- 250 g feta cheese
- 1 egg yolk
- 3 tbsp fresh parsley, minced
- 1/2 tsp thyme
Directions
- Preheat oven to 210°C ( 410°F)
- Dissolve the yeast by mixing it with the sugar and water in a cup
- In a bowl whisk together yogurt , egg , oil and salt until combined, add the water yeast mixture, flour and knead until it forms a smooth soft dough.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover and leave it in a warm place until it doubles in size.
- Prepare the filling: In a bowl combine the feta, parsley, egg yolk and thyme
- Divide the dough into egg sized balls, roll out each ball into an oval shape and place about 2 tablespoons of filling down the center of the dough and shape a boat ( see video )
- Brush fatayer with egg wash and bake until golden brown
